About

With Former University of the Philippines Regent, Dr. Nelia Gonzalez, owner of my artwork "Tadhana"

George Ian Joseph "Taipan" Figueras Lucero graduated Cum Laude from University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts in 2012. He has been a creative industry professional since 2008; his personal clients include Procter & Gamble Asia, Mary Kay Inc., Asia Brewery, and many others.

In 2015, working as the only Filipino designer in a company in Japan, he was required to take up Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) to understand their design and artistic philosophies. Through practicing Shodo, he experienced first hand the incredible love and respect the Japanese show for their culture. This was the inspiration for CalligraFilipino.

CalligraFilipino showcases our ancestral scripts such as Baybayin, Badlit, Surat Mangyan, among others, interpreted in an art style that simultaneously promotes our traditional cultural elements such as the Lingling-o fertility charm of the Ifugao, the Okir of the Maranao, and the Pintados patterns of the Visayas region, and many more. Through CalligraFilipino, Taipan's aim is to help ignite a cultural renaissance; a renewed interest and love for our culture.

Today, and moving forward, he aspires to be at the forefront of innovating and promoting Baybayin and other aspects of traditional Filipino culture with CalligraFilipino.
